Food Geek Friday: Coffee Granita with Kahlua Whipped Cream
We're starting to get little breaks in the heat. This week provided enough of a teaser to make me crave tomato soup and grilled cheese for lunch. (How do you know you're Texan? When that's what you want when it's 75 in the middle of the day. In August.)
However, it is still August and I know it's just a matter of time before we get a few 100+ days again. On those days, the only thing that sounds good is whatever is cold. If I thought I could get away with ice cream sundaes for dinner every night I would.
Like ice cream, I love coffee. But the last thing that sounds at the end of a hot day is hot coffee.
(read - fancy way to say bits of ice.)
Either way, this coffee granita with Kahlua whipped cream is the perfect way to finish off a breakfast for dinner meal or to replace the "after dinner coffee" when going outside feels like entering a branch office of hell.
Coffee Granita with Kahlua Whipped Cream
- strongly brewed coffee
- sugar to taste
- heavy whipping cream
- Stir sugar into strongly brewed coffee. Pour into glass bowl or dish and place in freezer. Every hour, drag a fork across coffee to break into small pieces. Continue until coffee is completely frozen.
- Pour Kahlua into whipping cream. Whip until soft peaks form. (Can add powdered sugar if needed. I don't because I don't want it too sweet.)
- Place granita into dishes with a dollop of Kahlua whipped cream on top.
